Future Ideas
Where is Atmosphere heading? Here, we have a fantastic peice of software
which allows almost anyone to build anything in a 3D virtual world.
But what can we do with it? The ideas must be limitless - the difficult
thing is discovering the ideas! Whatever we end up doing, presently,
it should be to improve the community's ability to develop content for
Atmosphere.
On a regular basis, I will be posting
here open ended tasks and ideas which may inspire you to develop bigger
and better things with Atmosphere. So if your looking for that next
mini or large project, take a look at the following ideas for starters! (Please note: using Australian date format as DD/MM/YYYY)
Task/Idea: Viewpoint
facer clouds
Date: 08/05 2003
Description: Similar to the viewpoint facer trees,
we could have facer clouds. The clouds could be realistic
JPGs with Alpha channel backgrounds.
Task/Idea: Multi chatter-bot environment
Date: 08/05 2003
Description: We can put an A.L.I.C.E chatter-bot in a virtual
world. But there are a few issues at hand we can elaborate on:
- Currently, one chatter-bot can communicate with only one person
at a time. Can we make it communicate appropriately in a conversation
with 2 or more people?
- No attempts have been made to see how (successful) 2 or more
chatter-bots interacting with each other are. This could be an
interesting experiment.
There is a huge future for chatter-bot technology in the virtual
world arena. There are many many possibilities for use of a chatter-bot
- tour guide, information assistant, resident characters, team-mate
AI in shoot-em-ups, and so forth.
Task/Idea: Roller coaster ride
Date: 08/05 2003
Description:
For perhaps part of a theme park, a roller coaster ride would be an excellent
test of Atmospheres physics engine to see how realistic you could
get it.
Task/Idea: Wind
Date: 08/05 2003
Description:
How can we simulate wind? Perhaps simulating 3D wind is not really possibly,
but creating wind affected instruments could give the impression
that wind really exists within a world. Some examples are:
- Blowing leaves
- Doors/Signs on hinges moving
- That whooshing sound that winds make
- Wind chimes (a nice one)
- Viewpoint plants leaf movements (tricky)
- Balloons
Task/Idea: Maths and Physics Tuition
Date: 25/07 2003
Description:
Something very worthwhile - using Atmosphere as an education facility. There's
something about being able to visualise spatially mathematic fields
such as Geometry that make them so much easier to learn. We can make
accurate Maths and Physics tutorial with Atmosphere which can
cover:
- Simple 3D geometry and equations
- Atmosphere Vectors and Rotations
- Matrix multiplication
- Physics - force, momentum, Netwons laws, energy transferal
